Last night Roger Waters brought his epic production of The Wall back to The Pepsi Center for an encore performance. The last time he was in town, back in November of 2010, he wowed a sold-out crowd, and those who missed the show the first time around had their opportunity to see the Pink Floyd legend perform the landmark album in it’s entirety in one of the best touring productions ever staged. With giant puppets, flying pigs, pyrotechnics, airplanes flying in the from the rafters, and of course a massive wall, Waters proved yet again that, even as he pushes 70, he is one of the biggest rock stars on the planet.
While the photo essay below doesn’t even begin to do the show justice, it will give you an idea of just exactly went on in The Can last night!
I have seen many rock concerts in my life, but none compares to the Wall..the imagery, the music, and the message. After annihilating the audience for the first four songs, Roger takes the time to chat with the crowd before singing and playing acoustic guitar..making the whole crowd feel at ease before resuming the rollercoaster ride that is and will forever remain the greatest live stage show ever produced..I was so close to the stage right, I saw and made eye contact with Roger several times and then later had friends of mine show me pictures where myself and my shadow were seen dancing on the actual Wall itself!! What an incredible and mystical experience!! All my life I have been a Floyd aficionado and to have my own shadow become a part of the actual projection on the Wall..far out!! And not to mention the standing ovation from the crowd at the end of the night..wow. Roger was visibly moved by Denver, and the band even broke out into a surprise reprisal chorus of the last song, Outside the Wall..something I did not see at the last tour-ending shows in Anaheim, CA, 2010! I kept screaming,”Set the controls for the heart of the sun, Roger!” , and I could tell he heard me..but if there is a heaven that Roger doesn’t believe in, then hopefully we will all have an eternity in which our favorite band will play these songs all night long and forever!
