Back in November, Listen Up Denver! was lucky enough to get The New Orleans Suspects to agree to play an exclusive set at Quixote’s True Blue for our video series “Listen Up Denver! Live.” Yesterday we released “36 Cars” (see that video here) and today you can feast your eyes and ears on “Swampthang,” a driving instrumental that features some great soloing. Tonight the boys are up in Frisco to begin a three show high-country run before hitting The Oriental this weekend for a two night stand.
Featuring members of The Radiators, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, The Neville Brothers, James Brown’s Band, and Denver’s own Polytoxic, these five musicians create music that is firmly rooted in the modern New Orleans sound with compelling originals and tasteful covers. The rhythm section of Reggie Scanlan and Willie Green are as comfortable together as red beans and rice. C.R. Gruver tickles the ivories or soars into the stratosphere on the organ. Jeff Watkins provides stellar saxophone fills and solos with great aplomb. Jake Eckert’s rhythm guitar work neatly complements his razor sharp solos. Though the band can clearly jam, with Eckert and Gruver trading off on lead vocals they are no simple jam band. See for yourself . . .
