Since 2004 Concerts For Kids has distributed over $3.4 million in monetary and in-kind donations to beneficiaries. Today Concerts For Kids helps support over 50 child-focused health and education organizations annually through its multiple fundraising events and community service projects the most visible of which is the annual Denver Day of Rock which takes place each Memorial Day weekend on and around the 16th Street Mall downtown. The 2014 edition of the festival boasted one of it’s best line-ups to date with headlining performances from The Hold Steady, Black Joe Lewis, The Plain White T’s, and The Wallflowers.  Despite the threat of rain lingering for much of the afternoon the heavens didn’t open up until almost exactly when the festival was wrapping up.  Throughout the day stand-out performances were the norm, but the Blues of Austin Young Band, the barroom Rock of The Hold Steady and the vintage Funk and Soul of Monophonics really stole the show.

Music has always been a part of my life. It probably all started listening to old Grateful Dead, Peter Paul & Mary, and Simon & Garfunkel records that my parents had, but it wasn't long before they were taking me to concerts like Starship, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Huey Lewis & The News. I got the bug to write about music after reviewing an Eric Clapton concert for a creative writing project in high school but didn't really take it up seriously until 2002. Since then I have published countless articles in The Marquee Magazine and done some work for Jambase.com, SPIN Magazine, and various other outlets. I started Listen Up Denver! as a way to share the music information that is constantly spilling out of my head with people who care. Please enjoy!
