Founded in 2007, the Playing For Change Foundation (PFCF) is a registered U.S. 501(c)(3) non-profit, that has a mission to connect the world through music by providing resources (including, but not limited to facilities, supplies, and educational programs) to musicians and their communities around the world. PFCF currently has 7 musical education programs operating in 5 countries. The common thread among the programs is a goal to ensure that anyone with the desire to play music would have the opportunity to do so. Peace and change ARE possible through the universal language of music.
This concert is specifically supporting PFCF’s Bizung School of Music and Dance in Tamale, Ghana.
With previous sold out shows at the Mish, Cervantes, the Boulder Theater and other local venues, Midnite returns to Colorado prepared to move you with their vigorous, weighty sound, driven by the punchy bass lines which create a vibe to penetrate straight to your heart. These epic musical communions have earned Midnite an enormous following throughout the roots community. Midnite weaves the cultural lyrics of “old school” roots music with modern day experiences to create a unique listening encounter. Roots Reggae – naked and raw is an apt description for Midnite’s musical style, in which they forgo the frills of extensive remixes, overdubbing and other musical refinements.
Most recently, invited to join the multi-national collective known as the Playing For Change Band, Mohammed Alidu, and has traveled the world promoting its message of Peace Through Music, sharing the stage with icons such as Toots Hibbert, Ziggy Marley and Keb’ Mo’. Singer, songwriter and drummer, Mohammed Alidu and his band The Bizung Family, create dynamic and vibrant West African highlife and Afropop music. The Bizung Family fuses traditional and contemporary elements from West Africa and Madagascar, creating a totally unique and passionately African sound. The band’s compositions pulsate from a percussionist’s perspective and contagiously inspire the audience to dance. The instrumentation that accompanies Alidu’s singing ranges from guitar, sax and keyboards to traditional African instruments such as the djembe, talking drum and kpanlogo drum.
