Why You Should Go: The Devil Makes Three’s sound is garage-y ragtime, punkified blues, old n’ new timey without settling upon a particular era, inspired as much by mountain music as by Preservation Hall jazz. “We bend genres pretty hard,” guitarist Pete Bernhard says.

“There’s a road that goes out of every town. All you’ve got to do is get on it,” Bernhard says and the guitarist/singer and his cohorts in the raw and raucous trio have found their way onto that road numerous times since they first left their picaresque rural hometown of Brattleboro, Vermont. Back then, they had no idea it would lead them to such auspicious destinations as the Newport Folk and Austin City Limits Festivals, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, and on tours with Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell and Trampled By Turtles. Along the way, they drew numerous accolades from a growing fan base and press alike.

Joining The Devil Makes Three is Alejandro Rose-Garcia who is professionally known as Shakey Graves.  With his new record, And the War Came, he extends the ground—emotionally and sonically—broken by his 2011 self-released debut album, Roll the Bones, which brought him national acclaim and, three years later, still ranks near the top of Bandcamp’s digital best-seller charts. Roll the Bones established the powerful, mesmerizing Shakey Graves sound of Rose-Garcia accompanying himself on guitar and a handmade kick drum built out of an old suitcase. NPR Music named him one of 10 artists music fans “should’ve known in 2012,” describing him as “astonishing…unclassifiably original. And frighteningly good.” Paste included him in a “Best of What’s Next” feature, praising his “gnarly composite of blues and folk,” while The New York Times observed that Shakey Graves “makes the one-man band approach look effortless.”

Rounding out this amazing bill is The Wood Brothers who the New York Times hailed for their “gripping” vocals and the LA Times called out for their “taught musicianship,” the live setting is the best showcase for the brothers’ live chemistry and charismatic magnetism.  Do not miss this show!
