My Morning Jacket kicked-off their three night New Year’s stand at the 1stBank Center on Friday night with a  two and a half hour show that touched on all eras of their nearly 20 year career.  While the band delighted longtime fans by opening the show with a trio of songs from their 2001 sophomore release At Dawn, and busting out five tracks that haven’t been played in more than two years, The Jacket also showcased favorites like “Golden” and “What A Wonderful Man,” and delivered a monster take on “Dondante” to close out the set.  While the music was the obvious focus point of the evening, the band’s lighting rig put on a show of it’s own and dazzled the crowd with a wide variety of configurations.  The boys from Kentucky proved yet again why they are known as one of the best live bands on the scene and raised expectations for a New Year’s Eve to remember.  If you don’t have your tickets yet, get them now!

Music has always been a part of my life. It probably all started listening to old Grateful Dead, Peter Paul & Mary, and Simon & Garfunkel records that my parents had, but it wasn't long before they were taking me to concerts like Starship, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Huey Lewis & The News. I got the bug to write about music after reviewing an Eric Clapton concert for a creative writing project in high school but didn't really take it up seriously until 2002. Since then I have published countless articles in The Marquee Magazine and done some work for Jambase.com, SPIN Magazine, and various other outlets. I started Listen Up Denver! as a way to share the music information that is constantly spilling out of my head with people who care. Please enjoy!
