Last Saturday Pigeons Playing Ping Pong threw down a show at The Ogden Theatre that left many in the sold-out crowd gasping for air. After a rousing open set from Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers, Pigeons took the stage for their largest headlining show to date to a deafening roar and immediately dropped into “Walk Outside” from their fan favorite 2016 album Pleasure. From there the set was a non-stop assault on the senses as the band kept up an inhuman pace and even showcased a little setlist shenanigans with a massive palindrome sandwich of “Horizon” > “I Wanna Be Like You” > “Bare Necessities” > “I Wanna Be Like You” > “Horizon” that was a sure highlight of the night. The second set showed no signs of slowing down as the lights continued to dazzle as the clock raced past midnight and the band strutted out a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Pigs (Three Different Ones),” a jammed out “Poseidon” and a set closing take on “Ocean Flows.” The celebratory nature of the night kept up right to the end with a double encore of “Bad For You” and “Doc.” It was a coming out party of sorts for Pigeons and they did not disappoint. These boys are the real deal and they will be on the scene for a long time to come.
