After an opening set from Deva Yoder, Patterson Hood, frontman of the Drive-By Truckers, played his next-to last show of the decade at Globe Hall for a devoted Denver audience when he wrapped up his solo acoustic tour last week. As he made his way through the set, he spoke candidly to the audience – as he always does – an endearing trait that has helped build his fanbase over the years. He remarked on his excitement to get home the next day and cure his homesickness, but admitted he was glad to play Denver one more time as the city has always been one of his favorite places to play. As Hood meandered through his set of rare Adam’s Housecat tracks and classic Truckers’ tunes, he crafted a setting as intimate as a house party in a friend’s living room, a skill more performers could stand to learn. Patterson finish the night with a stirring rendition of “Angels and Fuselage,” a personal favorite for me.
