PICK OF THE WEEK: The Del McCoury Band – Friday, December 8th – Cervantes, Denver, CO

Why You Should Go: Because this band is one of the Bluegrass bands touring today. Del and his sons form the core of the Del McCoury band and they are some of the most talented musicians in Bluegrass today. I am not a huge fan of the genre these days but the last time I saw Del McCoury Band at Cervantes I was blown away. The musical talent in the band is second to none and the high lonesome sound lives strong in these boys.

When Del and his band played Cervantes two years ago they took on the jam band vibe of the club head on and inprovised much of a stellar 2 hour set. They even took several requests from the audience. It was clear that night that the band was loving being on stage and they played their hearts out. This legendary band has recently won a Grammy Award and several Bluegrass Music Association honors. They are living legends and the opportunity to catch them in the intimate confines Cervantes should not be missed.

Music has always been a part of my life. It probably all started listening to old Grateful Dead, Peter Paul & Mary, and Simon & Garfunkel records that my parents had, but it wasn't long before they were taking me to concerts like Starship, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Huey Lewis & The News. I got the bug to write about music after reviewing an Eric Clapton concert for a creative writing project in high school but didn't really take it up seriously until 2002. Since then I have published countless articles in The Marquee Magazine and done some work for Jambase.com, SPIN Magazine, and various other outlets. I started Listen Up Denver! as a way to share the music information that is constantly spilling out of my head with people who care. Please enjoy!
