PICK OF THE WEEK: The New Mastersounds w/ Fox Street All Stars – Saturday, March 12th – Cervantes

Estimated read time 2 min read

Why You Should Go: The New Mastersounds have an unmistakable sound, its one part Jazz, one part 60’s funk, and one part Jamband.  Pulled together by four men that seem to share a brain, this mixture is has proven over time to be an unstoppable force in the music world.  They grab the audience’s attention and they don’t let it go till the crowd collapses in a sweaty heap on the dance floor.  The secret ingredient in this mesmerizing cocktail is talent and that is one thing that these four guys have in spades.

Joining The New Mastersounds on their entire Western tour this March are local boys, The Fox Street All Stars.  These guys deliver hard charging show that features everything from road house blues type rock-n-roll in the style of Gov’t Mule, or Widespread Panic to Blues Brothers style Rhythm and Bluesthat would be right at home on a Jazz Fest stage.  The one thing that remains constant every night is that the band is always hell bent on delivering a high energy show that will get whole room grooving.

If you can’t make this show there are a couple of other opportunities to catch these two powerhouse bands together around the state: March 13 Vail—Sandbar, March 15 Aspen—Belly Up, March 16 – Boulder —Fox Theatre

Music has always been a part of my life. It probably all started listening to old Grateful Dead, Peter Paul & Mary, and Simon & Garfunkel records that my parents had, but it wasn't long before they were taking me to concerts like Starship, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Huey Lewis & The News. I got the bug to write about music after reviewing an Eric Clapton concert for a creative writing project in high school but didn't really take it up seriously until 2002. Since then I have published countless articles in The Marquee Magazine and done some work for Jambase.com, SPIN Magazine, and various other outlets. I started Listen Up Denver! as a way to share the music information that is constantly spilling out of my head with people who care. Please enjoy!

Mr. Dwenger’s take on this upcoming show is spot on! I was fortunate to ‘witness’ the tour’s kick off show in Jackson Hole on 3/1 … The Town SquareTavern couldn’t have packed in one more body! The Fox Street Allstars’ dirty, gritty & bluesy tunes certainly had the house pumped by the time The New Mastersounds hit the stage. From there it was nearly mayhem on the dance floor. As I understand it they’ve been playing to sold out crowds ever since. I’d expect that Sat. night’s show @ Cervantes will be even more rockin’. Forget the whirled peas and get yourself some serious rockin’ blues & funk!! My son would say, “Denver done right!”. No truer words spoken.
