Sonic Bloom – June 13th-17th – Shadow’s Ranch – One Man’s Take

Estimated read time 13 min read

Whether you subscribe to the idea of mass consciousness or not, there is no denying the amount of energy in the air as you exit the highway and come upon the front gate of Shadow’s Ranch that reads “Sonic Bloom.” In nearly a decade Sonic Bloom has grown from a small, relatively unknown gathering to one of the premier boutique transformational festivals. Riding on the heels of a sold-out 2012, this year’s Bloom had quite the shoes to fill.

The Gaslight Anthem – April 29th – The Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

The Gaslight Anthem delivered a show last week at The Ogden that was driving Rock and Roll with roots in Punk, yet still an ambiguous ode to the best parts of America. It’s a sound that can apply to anyone who has ever been smitten with love, heartbroken, or out all night imbibing to forget. Between Brian Fallon’s voice and the way he can make a complex theme seem so simple, it’s hard not to dig into the archives of your soul with their anthemic songs as the soundtrack to your memories.

Fruition – April 13th – Cervantes’ Other Side

Estimated read time 4 min read

Being around at the beginning, before a band makes it big, is a desire shared by all music lovers and Colorado is no stranger to this phenomena. We’ve always been big believers that if you can make a name for yourself in Colorado then you can make it almost anywhere. With Fruition, we won’t know for sure until maybe a year from now, but last week they made a real case for themselves at Cervantes’ when they brought their West Coast Folk-Rock String Band sound to the Front Range for a three night stand.

Random Rab & Bluetech – April 5th – Cervantes’ Ballroom

Estimated read time 6 min read

Years ago a seed was planted on a mountain next to a river and into the collective consciousness of music freaks. It was watered regularly, eventually taking root and each year since it has grown, budded and left all of those aware with an even bigger Sonic Bloom than the last. As the winter comes to its end, and the spring does what it has to do, there is a buzz forming while the pollen spreads and last Friday the first Sonic Bloom pre-party transported a packed Cervantes’ to another world.

The Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan Talks Spirituality & The Changing Music Business

Estimated read time 7 min read

A few weeks back the mastermind of The Smashing Pumpkins was kind enough to give us some time to chat with him. Time was tight, but the bald-headed legend of “Alternative Rock” was very insightful in his conversation about the future of the music business, spirituality, and his bands evolution. Fortunately we were lucky enough to be half awake and almost prepared enough to pick the brain of the one and only Billy Corgan.

John Hiatt & The Combo – August 30th – Chautauqua Auditorium

Estimated read time 5 min read

John Hiatt joked early on in his performance last week at Chautauqua that he had recently turned 60 years old. But, by the way he danced around the stage, filled the room with song, and simply rocked the hell out, you would have never been able to guess.he is one of the best songwriters to have ever come out of the Nashville music scene and his songs have been covered by everyone from Bob Dylan to Iggy Pop. He is a man with a legacy and he brought Colorado’s real music lovers out in force last week.

Andrew Bird – August 15th – Chautauqua Auditorium

Estimated read time 5 min read

Andrew Bird is a musical genius in every sense of the word. His understanding of sounds far outshines that of almost anyone else on the scene. Artists often work looping machines and play multiple instruments, but never like this. He builds the songs one piece at a time with a hand as steady as a surgeon’s. He captures your attention with not only his sounds, but the words that accompany them. This show was easily one of the musical highlights of the summer!
