Sonic Bloom Relocates and Boasts Strongest Line-Up To Date

Estimated read time 4 min read

One of the fastest growing festivals in Colorado is Sonic Bloom, which will be holding its 9th annual summer solstice gathering in a brand new location. In the past few years Sonic Bloom has called Shadow’s Ranch in Georgetown home. While it’s still known as a “boutique” festival, due to an increase in attendance and the need for additional space for camping and stages, festival organizers have staked their claim on the American Safari Ranch in South Park for June 19th-22nd.

The Glitch Mob – April 25th – Fillmore Auditorium

Estimated read time 4 min read

Colfax was buzzing with the energy that only comes from the breaking of springtime weather. The L.A. Beat Scene trio The Glitch Mob was set to play back-to-back nights at the Fillmore Auditorium in support of their recent Billboard Top 40 album “Love Death Immortality.” Coming hot off the heels of the group’s biggest performance to date at Coachella last week, the Denver crowd was anxious to get their fill of The Glitch Mob’s signature synth laden sets.

Pretty Lights – December 5th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 5 min read

On a frigid night on the Front Range, a select group of lucky ticket holders filled The Ogden to see the Pretty Lights live band. This was the smallest venue that has housed Smith’s Electro-Soul in Colorado in years, and the ticket scalpers prices shot through the roof knowing that Smith’s loyal contingent of fans would pay just about anything to see him again in such an intimate setting. As frost began to creep it’s way onto the inside of the Ogden’s glass doors at the entrance, Smith and his band took the stage for the hometown crowd.

The Polish Ambassador – November 9th – Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom

Estimated read time 5 min read

The Polish Ambassador is infectious to see in person, infusing the crowd with a personal love and enthusiasm for the work he obviously feels grateful to share. His steady rise through the festival circuit and now selling out three nights in a row in Colorado are early signs of success that should only continue in the years to come. If you’re willing and able to break out your mother’s 1980’s ski jumpsuit for a night and let loose on the dance floor, don’t miss him the next time he bounces through town.

Nosaj Thing – September 19th – Casselman’s

Estimated read time 5 min read

L.A. based producer Jason Chung, better known by his backward first-name moniker “Nosaj Thing,” headlined Cassleman’s last week and while he has gained popularity in the Hip-Hop scene in recent years both as a producer of his own creations and also for collaborations with rappers Kid Cudi, Chance the Rapper and Kendrick Lamar on his own the mellow moods created by his music proved he may be a better fit for a great pair of headphones than a dance floor.

Mimosa – ‘Future Trill Vol. 2’ Listening Party – July 18th – Side 3 Studios

Estimated read time 5 min read

Mimosa has a gift for blending styles of music that had been kept under wraps through his previous releases. On ‘Future Trill Vol. 1’ he stuck with his Hip-Hop beat making and monstrous bass lines, but ‘Future Trill Vol. 2’ seems to venture away from that norm. He did continue to show off his craft of matching glitched synth lines with 808 drum beats to incite energy but also talked about how, while on tour, he has been inspired and influenced by different styles and sounds.

James Blake – April 28th – Ogden Theater

Estimated read time 5 min read

Last Sunday the Ogden’s stage was lit sparsely with blues and purples befitting the tone of James Blake’s music, with strobe lights being the most adventurous light display of the evening. Apparently the opening act didn’t do much to enliven the audience, so by the time James Blake and a pair of accompanying musicians took to the stage, the anticipation in the room was tangible. Some call his sound post-dubstep or electro-soul but as any concertgoer knows, a label doesn’t matter when an artist hits the stage.
