Railroad Earth – September 18th – Red Rocks

Estimated read time 4 min read

There’s magic in the air when Railroad Earth comes to town. Last September the band produced a sweeping live film of their performance at Red Rocks Amphitheater. Needless to say it was a monumental show and this year would be hard pressed to surpass the energy and set list from the show that made fans swoon. Anytime you get to hear Railroad Earth play two sets it’s a special experience for the band and attendees but the 2014 Red Rocks set a standard that is difficult to match.

The Motet & Lettuce – June 5th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

Red Rocks Amphitheatre has seen a lot of moisture over the past month so it wasn’t surprising when Friday’s much anticipated evening with Lettuce and The Motet began with another drenching monsoon thunderstorm that unleashed a brief but violent torrent of water, wind and lightning which sent fans scrambling as waterfalls cascaded off the rocks and turned the stairs into raging rivers of mud. It was truly a crazy scene but by 9:00 the storm had passed and fans slowly emerged from their caves, soaked but ready to dance.

Last Friday Sound Tribe Sector 9 returned to Red Rocks Amphitheatre for an intimate and powerful three-set performance. The evening was highlighted by a special acoustic “Axe the Cables” performance, a tradition that the group started here in Denver in 2009. It was a massive effort. The Tribe seems to be settling in nicely to their most recent incarnation; they are more on point than ever and having more fun doing what they do best.

Jason Isbell & Hard Working Americans – July 22nd – Boulder Theater

Estimated read time 3 min read

Hard Working Americans made their return to The Boulder Theater last Tuesday evening after their debut performance in December. This time the show was augmented by a full set from Alabama singer-songwriter Jason Isbell. Though the one constant in the venue was the heat and stagnant air that made it feel like Alabama in July the music would prove to be gritty southern fried Rock n Roll at its finest.

A large crowd of young and old, Burning Man veterans and curious lovers of psychedelia packed the Fox Theatre in Boulder on a casual Wednesday evening last week to partake in the spectacle that is the Lucent Dossier Experience. The Fox may not have been the best venue for a performance of this size but it certainly provided for a serene view of Lucent Dossier’s acrobatics and stylized choreography. The crowd was treated to silky dance, thunderous Dub-Step and gorgeous costumes that rival Empire of The Sun for sheer audacity.

SnowBall Music Festival – April 6th – Sports Authority Field

Estimated read time 3 min read

Although the layout of the 2014 SnowBall Festival was ill-conceived and the crowd was ridiculously young in age and experience, there were several dominating performances on Sunday that reaffirmed why the SnowBall Festival deserves to occupy a permanent spot on the Colorado concert calendar. The Juan McLean delivered an excellent Deep House set and Busta Rhymes, a true legend, took the crowd back to the golden age of Hip-Hop; all in all, it was a great night.
