Desert Rocks Festival – June 8, 9, & 10 – Green River, UT

Nothing like a quick stop home to do some laundry and unload all your camping and photo gear, just to turn around and pack it back up less than 24 hours later. Listen Up Denver! is, after all, a Colorado music resource and with Colorado bands Elephant Revival, MTHDS, Euforquestra, Octopus Nebula, Tatanka, Atomga, James and The Devil, and more playing the Desert Rocks 2012 music festival, how could we not follow the setting sun and stream of band busses heading west?

Matisyahu – The Wakarusa Interview

One challenge that comes from working a festival like Wakarusa is that you have to make sacrifices in order to meet obligations. Missing a good portion of SOJA, and Slightly Stoopid’s second set of the weekend, was well worth getting the opportunity to sit down with Matisyahu. This one-of-a-kind vocalist and songwriter took some time with Listen Up Denver! to talk about his upcoming album Spark Seeker, and to share his favorite Wakarusa memory.

The Devil Makes Three is currently touring in support of their newest LP, Stomp and Smash; a live release recorded over two sold out nights in Petaluma, CA and they give new meaning to the phrase “tour machine.” They played Wakarusa in the middle of a national tour with Flogging Molly and dates with Gogol Bordello before heading to Bonnaroo. Matisyahu – December 17th – The Ogden Theatre

When Matisyahu took the stage on Saturday at The Ogden, the diversity of his vocal range could only be matched by the diversity of the crowd. Fans young, old, black, white, clean shaven, dreaded, and everything in between seemed to be in the same breathless awe throughout the Reggae stars mesmerizing performance as his new backing band, Dub Trio, breathed new life into classic songs like “Darkness Into Light” and “Youth” with their powerful wall of sound.

Mason Jennings – October 27th – The Boulder Theater

The Boulder Theater was filled with star eyed lovers both young and old, indie-folksters, and only a few young men that looked like they might be more at home at a fraternity kegger when Mason Jennings stopped in. The evening passed with a continual ebb and flow of energy that matched Jennings extensive catalog as he swapped keys for strings and even threw and Auto-Harp into the mix near the end of the show.
