Recently we have seen bands like the Damned, the Misfits, and now T.S.O.L start touring again. Are all these bands from the 80’s just tapping into nostalgia, or is punk still relevant?

Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox has no need for an opener for the concert which turned out to be a musical variety show in the vein of televisions Lawrence Welk Show or the Dean Martin Show.

Flogging Molly & Social Distortion – September 13th – The Mission Ballroom

Estimated read time 4 min read

In the song “Bad Luck,” Mike Ness sings, “Thirteen’s my lucky number, /To you it means stay inside. /Black cat done crossed my path, /No reason to run and hide.” I feel bad for the people with Triskaidekaphobia, because they missed one hell of a split bill on Friday the 13th.

Fantastic Negrito – September 4th – The Bluebird Theater

Estimated read time 3 min read

Fantastic Negrito’s Xavier and Colfax have a lot in common. Both have a seedy past filled with drugs and crime. Both nearly died, and both the street and the artist just may just have been saved by music.

“Denver’s Free Music Scene” – From Neighborhood Bars to the Levitt Pavilion

Estimated read time 5 min read

Good beer and good music. Both feed our emotions, evoking moods and feelings that are often times hard to express. Both can change a bad mood and make it happy or excited; both can change a light mood and make it more introspective and profound. Beer and music are often at the heart of groups of people and the communities they are part of. They say the only thing better than good beer, is free beer. In a lot of ways that’s true for music too.

Estimated read time 5 min read

They say April showers bring May flowers. This is definitely true in Colorado. This year’s Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco & Music Festival, headlined by The Offspring fell on April 28th. The day filled with craft beer, tasty tacos, Lucha Libre style wrestling, and live music started at 73 degrees – shorts and flip flop weather in Denver – and by the end of the show the crowd saw wind, rain, and a 32 degree drop in temperature.

The Interrupters – April 5th – Ogden Theater

Estimated read time 2 min read

On a warm Friday evening in early April my Uber dropped me in front of The Ogden Theater. On the marquee below the purposefully distorted letters spelling out the headliners name were the words “Sold Out”. There weren’t even scalpers outside selling overpriced tickets on the secondary market. Sold out, meant sold out. Denverites must really love their ska-punk like their beloved Colfax Avenue, a little dirty, a bit raw, and always entertaining.

Slayer & Anthrax – October 10th – The Fillmore

Estimated read time 3 min read

Do you remember a time when you cranked the stereo up as loud as you could get away with to drown out the world and wallow in your teen angst? A time when Motley Crue was shouting at the devil because Satan could no longer hear them, having been deafened by the emergence of thrash metal? Two of the genre’s biggest names, Slayer and Anthrax, invaded the Fillmore and it was one hell of a night!

“X” – April 1st – Summit Music Hall

Estimated read time 3 min read

How does a band remain relevant nearly thirty years later? They do what “X” does and play straight forward honest to God Rock and Roll just like they did when they started in 1977. Last Friday “X” from Los Angeles played a show in Denver to help the Summit Music Hall celebrate their 6th anniversary. If Friday was any indication, you do not want to miss any of the rest of this special concert series that commemorates this milestone.
