  • Picnicers dotted the park surrounding the historic Chautauqua Auditorium last Friday night before Americana rocker Ryan Bingham brought a surprisingly rowdy show to the historic barn of a venue. It felt like one of the first true nights of summer with a huge orange moon peeking through the trees and a perfect temperature for jeans and a t-shirt. The intense, foot stomping show was the perfect Friday concert to let loose at. The venue may not have suited his style, but nobody seemed to mind one bit.

  • Following Tuesday’s “Evening With Soundgarden” at Colorado’s 1st Bank Center, it is clear that the nearly 15-year hiatus did nothing to hinder the band’s sound, chemistry, or performance. What the hiatus seems to have done is strengthened both the band and its fanbase - Knights of the Soundtable. It was readily apparent, (before the lights had gone down and the long-awaited Soundgarden took the stage), that for these fans, distance really had made all the difference.

  • Last week brought a rare scene to The Boulder Theater, as it was jammed with devoted, high energy heavy metal fans, Lamb of God fans in particular. Boulder isn’t exactly know for its heavy metal scene, but metal fans of all ages and sizes came out in full force fans on Wednesday night to enjoy a night of head banging and moshing with LOG. Before the first song was over the band had to stop the show for 25 minutes for the safety of everyone involved. This was truly a metal mayhem moment!!!

  • The nearly full Bluebird Theater was packed with fans drenched in black waiting to see The Dreaming and Lola Black last Thursday. Lola Black struck the show in the face with the giant brass knuckle mic stand, tons of defiance and said hello by giving us all the bird. Lola herself immediately seemed like a force to be considered in her 6-inch platforms with spikes, fishnet stockings and the black teased hair. Her fans flaunted real Mile High love for this hometown group.

  • There must have been a ship docked at 935 E Colfax on Monday night, because as I walked up to the Ogden Theater I became engulfed in a sea of boys and girls wearing denim and sailor caps. A bit surreal since we were all awash with the neon of Colfax, and not the Pacific Ocean which was over 1,000 miles away. Learning to embrace the odd lately, I decided if KISS can have army of fans then Turbonegro can have its navy of fans.

  • Catching a show at eTown Hall feels a bit like going to church on a Sunday morning. A good amount of this probably due to the fact that eTown Hall is a renovated church building but the community feel of the venue also contributes to that feeling. Last week's eTown taping featured Seattle's Pickwick and Subdudes frontman Tommy Malone. Though it won't hit the airwaves for a month or two, you won't want to miss this one when it's heard by over a million listeners across the country.

  • The Ogden Theatre was buzzing with excitement last Friday in honor of the legendary Meter Men (Leo Nocentelli on guitar, George Porter Jr. on bass, and Zigaboo Modeliste on drums plus Page McConnell from Phish sitting in for the legendary Art Neville on the Keys). An older crowd sporting plain tees and cargo shorts—nothing too fancy. Just those who showed up for the funk and stayed for…well, the funk.

  • The Ogden Theatre was packed last Thursday for My Morning Jacket front-man Jim James' first solo show in Colorado. James' reverb drenched voice soared angelically to the deepest, darkest corners of the room and for the duration of the show one could look around the room and see expressions of wonder and bliss on faces off all ages as we all got lost in the experience together. It was a varied and inspired show that left everyone in attendence frothing at the bit for My Morning Jacket to return to Colorado in all their glory this summer.

  • The Bluebird Theater was a full house this past Thursday night for California Folk duo The Milk Carton Kids' sold out show. The Milk Carton kids hit Denver in the middle of their North American tour in support of The Ash & Clay, which was released back in March. The Bluebird was filled from front to back with folding chairs and winter coats saving seats, both quite the unusual sight. In the end the hilarious and heartfelt set made for a memorable experience and a truly great show.
