One of the big stories on the Colorado Bluegrass scene over the last year has been Big Richard. The fabulously talented women who make up this four piece band have been making waves in a largely male dominated scene and it’s been awesome to watch. They came together for a one-off show at the McAwesome Festival in Castle Rock and there’s been no looking back since.

John Craigie’s performance at The Ogden Theater on December 16th was a special night of music and laughter. The solo acoustic set was filled with humor, wit, and just a touch of political commentary. Craigie’s unique approach to music and storytelling kept the audience engaged throughout the entire show.

Orebolo – December 14th – Boulder Theater

Orebolo, the acoustic offshoot of the wildly popular jamband Goose, set up shop at the Boulder Theater last Wednesday and left the capacity crowd in awe. Featuring Rick Mitarotonda and Peter Anspach on guitars and Jeff Arevalo on stand-up bass, the trio presented stripped down versions of Goose songs with a focus on intricate guitar interplay between the two stellar players. The crowd was full of rabid fans, with the line forming hours before the doors opened.

One of Denver’s most beloved “main drags,” and home to many of the cities best live music venues, Colfax avenue is just the right blend of seedy and hipster around The Bluebird Theater these days. The storied venue played host to a great night of music last Saturday with The Lil Smokies, Cris Jacobs, and some memorable sit-ins.

Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros – November 5th – Mission Ballroom

This past weekend, Bob Weir and Wolf Bros made their triumphant return to Denver to celebrate the end of the their Fall tour. While no member of The Grateful Dead has ever really needed to tour “in support of” an album, it could be argued that this tour was in support of Weir’s recently released Live From Colorado – Volume 2 which dropped on October 7th.

As time passes, we lose more and more of the greats, so no matter what flaws the show might have had, it was still a privilege to see Nick Mason on stage bringing those classics to life. There will never be another Pink Floyd, so any piece that still exists must be held onto until the very end.
