Joe Pug and Anais Mitchell & Jefferson Hamer – May 23rd – eTown Hall

eTown Hall, the home base of the nationally syndicated eTown radio broadcast, was the scene of yet another outstanding pair of artists last month, Joe Pug and Anais Mitchell. Neither artist is a stranger to Colorado, but seeing them on the same stage back-to-back, with interviews in the mix, made for an extra special show for no more than 200 lucky fans.

Josh Ritter & The Royal City Band – July 16th – Chautauqua Barn

Throughout his two hour performance, Ritter was nothing but smiles as energy poured out of him and dazzled the crowd with songs like the opener “Monster Ballads,” “Rumors,” and “Right Moves” that featured the band teasing Dire Straits “Walk of Life” as the song drew to a close . . . and that was only the first half hour. As the crowd filled the night after the show there were ear to smiles on faces of all ages and people were already talking about the next time they would get to catch Ritter and his infectious live performance!

Anais Mitchell’s ‘Young Man In America’ Is A Literary & Musical Powerhouse Of An Album

Last year, Colorado folk music fans had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with Anais Mitchell’s music. In April she opened up for Graham Nash and David Crosby at The Paramount Theatre, late summer brought her to the mainstage of The Rocky Mountain Folks Festival, and Swallow Hill Music Association presented her “Folk-Opera” Hadestown in October. Her new album, Young Man in America, will be released on February 28th.

With A Great 2011 Under His Belt, Reed Foehl Prepares For His Biggest Year Yet

Reed Foehl had a hell of a year in 2011. He got to perform with Arlo Guthrie at eTown and with Anais Mitchell on her unique folk project “Hadestown :: A Folk Opera,” and now Leann Womack is recording one of his songs. Each year seems to bring more and more for this man, and 2012 may be his biggest year yet!

The 21st annual Rocky Mountain Folks Festival was another smashing success as it sold-out in advance for the second year in a row thanks to yet another outstanding line-up put together by the good people over at Planet Bluegrass. With stellar performances from Dan Mangan, Mary Gauthier, Josh Ritter, Bob Weir, Chris Robinson, & Jackie Greene and more, it was truly a wonderful weekend in Lyons.
