From members of The Motet, to Analog Son, to Atomga, the whole scene was on pins and needles, just itching for show day to come. When the dust settled and the room had cleared D'Angelo had delivered what was easily one of the best performances of the year and a show that exploded into many fans "best of all time" lists.

  • From the Delorean parked out front to Marc Brownstein performing the narration on "Thriller" as the show wound to a close, last Friday night's long-anticipated Dance Party Time Machine was a major, bad-to-the-bone success. A vast majority of Denver's local Jam, Rock, and Funk music scenes were represented, with musicians taking turns on-stage throughout the duration of the Dance Party's 4-hour throw-down. Denverites should feel lucky to have such incredible performers, artists, and musicians living in our midst.

  • Church was in session Sunday night as Maceo Parker and his band of Funk-fueled musicians took Denverites on a journey to the early days of Funk. The huge room at Cervantes' was pretty empty early on, leaving those who arrived in time for Analog Son wondering why people were opting to stay in rather than see a legend like Maceo take the stage in such a small club. Halfway through the night, fans of the Funk had come out of the woodwork and the saxophone was preaching to the congregation.

  • The Church of Funkentology is a religion by definition but a social organization by design. Our mission is to promote, protect, preserve and spread The Funk. We are in our formative stages, but our long term goal is for The Church of Funkentology to be the definitive resource and temple for The Funk. Listening to Funk music, or any music for that matter, is our act of devotion. We worship in front of stages and speakers. There is no “god,” but a central spiritual power we turn to, and that is The Funk. The Funk is a spirit, an essence and a fiery force.

  • Maceo Parker: his name is synonymous with Funky Music. His pedigree is impeccable. His band: the tightest little Funk orchestra on earth. he's played with each and every leader of Funk, his start with James Brown, which led to jumping aboard the Mothership with George Clinton and stretching out with Bootsy's Rubber Band. He's the living, breathing pulse that connects the history of Funk in one golden thread.
