Glen Hansard – November 16th – Paramount Theatre

Estimated read time 5 min read

Ahead of the blizzard that wasn’t, fans braved the threat of fast-falling, blowing snow for an intimate night with Irish folk musician Glen Hansard at the historic Paramount Theatre. Hansard could have come solo, powered solely by the strength of his lyrics and vocals, but instead, he showed up with a full nine piece band behind him and proceeded to vigorously play songs from his new album as well as some The Swell Season favorites.

Elephant Revival – November 8th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

Elephant Revival fans know they are going to get an experience, not just a show, and that experience could be classified as near spiritual. Not religious by any means,, but there is a special energy that I only experience at an Elephant Revival show, and everytime I see them I feel as if I “come-to” once the show is over. Well this night was no different, and I felt as if I were transported somewhere else for the duration of the performance, then slowly dropped back to the balcony of The Ogden once it was over.

Greensky Bluegrass – October 20th – The Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

The Bluebird was packed this past weekend for night two of Greensky Bluegrass. From dready to dapper, people danced and stared as Greensky blew the minds of their home-away from home-town crowd. These guys bring tight vocal harmonies and well thought-out lyrics to an often silly or sloppy Jamgrass scene and their fans love them for it. From covers of The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and The Stanley Brothers, to fantastic original tunes, this was one for the ages.

Punch Brothers – March 12th – The Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 5 min read

Punch Brothers have a special place in the hearts of Colorado bluegrass lovers, and their Monday night performance at The Bluebird Theatre felt as if it were in front of a home-town crowd. Telluride Bluegrass is probably one of the most important catalysts in connecting Colorado with this progressive five-piece, and the festival was also an integral part in the formation of the band itself. In that sense, I guess you could say that Colorado helped give birth to Punch Brothers, and we should be able to claim them as our own in some way.
