Denver Writes Talks With Austin Young About His Sound, His Influences, and His Heroes

Earlier this week we published a feature article on how Listen Up Denver! is teaming up with Denver Writes and Amp The Cause for a series of interviews profiling several of the artists scheduled to perform at the Denver Day of Rock on Saturday, May 23rd. For the first piece in this series, ten year old Clary Reichley got to sit down with local Blues guitarist Austin Young to talk about his sound, his influences, and his heroes.

Denver Day Of Rock: Denver Writes For The Cause

On May 23rd downtown Denver will once again echo with the sounds of booming bass and gritty guitars for the 7th annual Denver Day of Rock, presented by the non-profit organization Amp The Cause to raise funds and awareness for like minded local non-profits. While Amp The Cause has always put an emphasis on children, this year’s event birthed a unique opportunity for the young, intrepid writers of Denver Writes to interview Day of Rock artists and review their performances.

Denver Day of Rock – May 24th – 16th Street Mall

The 2014 edition of the Denver Day of Rock boasted one of it’s best line-ups to date and despite the threat of rain lingering for much of the afternoon the heavens didn’t open up until almost exactly when the festival was wrapping up. Throughout the day stand-out performances were the norm, but the Blues of Austin Young Band, the barroom Rock of The Hold Steady, and the vintage Funk and Soul of Monophonics really stole the show.
