Two nights, two sold-out midweek shows at The Ogden for Gary Clark Jr. and his band. Tickets were hard to come-by on the street and beer lines were long in the venue. This Texas guitar god has been on the scene for several years now and the crowd that flooded the mid-sized theater on Wednesday was a varied mix of people of all ages and walks of life. Robert Randolph & The Family Band – March 7th – Gothic Theater

Estimated read time 5 min read

Robert Randolph and The Family Band are nothing short of extraordinary. True to their name, Robert has employed his real family members to create the soulful, upbeat Rock, Soul, Jam, Funk fusion he is known for. There aren’t many other bands that come together and produce such outstanding guitar riffs and unique Blues and Soul melodies. Though the Family Band is great, the main event all evening was Robert with his pedal steel guitar and unique gruff and falsetto singing. He engaged the crowd and kept them dancing.

BB King – August 12th – Chautauqua Auditorium

Estimated read time 7 min read

The Flatirons and the setting sun lit the scenic grounds of the Chautauqua Auditorium this past Tuesday night before the meeting of two pieces of American history – The 116 year old barn and the 88 year old King of the Blues: BB King. Baby boomers filled the venue to see a man who was a whole twenty years older than themselves, but had lost some of his magic along the long 88 year road. In the end it was more of a poignant reminder of our eminent mortality as humans than an entertaining night out.

No it wasn’t that he couldn’t play those signature licks, it’s just that he chose not to.
