20 Questions with Trout Steak Revival
If you love Rocky Mountain Bluegrass as much as we do, you’ve surely happened upon the skilled sounds of Trout Steak Revival. The quintet is making waves in our little pond with their elaborate harmonies, which are backed by strong instrumentation and impressive song writing abilities. While the group hails out of Denver, their music was inspired by what lies just beyond our city in the “misty high country” where they say the music was born. They started as an informal Bluegrass Jam group and have made huge leaps in years since.

String Cheese Incident – July 6th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre
Well if you haven’t heard by now, let us be the first to tell you . . . Friday night at Red Rocks was WET! Early in String Cheese Incident’s first set, a storm that had been threatening for a while descended on the venue. The bathrooms (and anywhere else with a roof for that matter) were packed with sodden fans, and people huddled together in beer tents and under just about any overhang they could find as water fell from the sky in sheets as they waited for what turned out to be a stellar show from the band for nearly two hours.
Sam Bush – April 6th – Quixotes’
On Friday night, Quixotes’ was packed with hippies, flannel shirts, and grey haired music lovers from all walks of life who all came out to see the “King of Telluride,” Sam Bush. The entire venue was wall to wall all the way out the door towards the patio and there were even a few folks standing on the couches near the back and craning their necks for a better view. Bush nodded to Banjo legend Earl Scruggs, covered Leon Russell and threw a good ol’ fashioned hootenanny that made this Good Friday a really good Friday.

Yonder Mountain String Band – December 27th – The Boulder Theater
For most people, New Year’s Eve is a party that happens only one night a year. For the Kinfolk of Yonder Mountain String Band, New Year’s was a week-long celebration this year. Joined by Infamous Stringduster Andy Hall on the Dobro last Tuesday night, the Yonder boys gave us two sets of what they are known for; fast picking, tight playing and high energy. There really was no better way to start our New Year celebrations than with a sold-out Boulder Theater and a raging hometown Bluegrass hootenanny.
