PICK OF THE WEEK: Dyrty Byrds – Oriental Theater – Saturday, March 19th

Estimated read time 2 min read

Leaving a trail of burned up bars and sweat soaked guitars since 2009, the Dyrty Byrds have shown no mercy in their pursuit of original guitar driven rock and roll. Tori Pater, Eric Martinez, Mike “Spanky” McCluer, and Andrew Clapp are a fourpiece rock band from Denver, CO that would fit as easily into the 1970’s classic/southern rock scene as they do in modern day American music.

20 Questions with Ignatius Reilly

Estimated read time 4 min read

The best music is made collaboratively. Though new talent pops up regularly, it seems like bands that make the quickest movement to the spotlight are the Frankenstein bands–we all know them. Some are more regular than others. Certainly, every once in a while a musician happens upon another musician, and together they make something that is a graduated version of what they each made alone. When four experienced, talented and well-seasoned musicians come together in this way, you end up with a band like Ignatius Reilly.

Dyrty Byrds – Zeitgeist

Estimated read time 3 min read

Dyrty Byrds are known for their straight-no-chaser southern tinged Rock and Roll, and their new album stays true to form. Zeitgeist is guitar heavy and aggressive, but still maintains a certain southern charm. In addition to being axe men, Eric Martinez (Bloodkin), Tori Pater (Polytoxic), and Sam Holt (Outformation) all shared songwriting duties on the album. Having three guitar players enables them to layer different tones and bring many different flavors into the mix but The Dryty Byrds aren’t all guitar.

Widespread Panic – February 10th – The Fillmore

Estimated read time 6 min read

Last friday night was the night that many Colorado Widespread Panic fans had been waiting four months for. The band announced an “indefinite hiatus” back in September and then surprised a lot of folks by announcing an acoustic mini-tour billed as “The Wood Tour.” With six shows right here in Colorado (3 in Denver and 3 in Aspen), our state was blessed with an inordinately large share of the dates which shows yet again how much the Panic boys love the Rocky Mountains.
