Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros – November 5th – Mission Ballroom

Estimated read time 5 min read

This past weekend, Bob Weir and Wolf Bros made their triumphant return to Denver to celebrate the end of the their Fall tour. While no member of The Grateful Dead has ever really needed to tour “in support of” an album, it could be argued that this tour was in support of Weir’s recently released Live From Colorado – Volume 2 which dropped on October 7th.

Bob Weir & Wolf Bros – June 8th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

There was one line that was running through my head all night – and yes, it’s a little cheesy but I couldn’t shake it – Weir Back! From the opening notes of “New Speedway Boogie” it was apparent that not only were the Deadheads back in force, but so was Bobby. Looking to be in great shape both physically and vocally, Weir’s choice of songs to open his first show back from the pandemic was no happenstance as the opening trio all contained references to the odd year we’ve all endured together, and apart.

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead – August 29th – Red Rocks

Estimated read time 3 min read

Well that was one for the books. While Joe Russo’s Almost Dead is consistently one of the most exploratory and compelling bands on the scene, they always seem to push their limits for the Colorado faithful and this year was no different.

Dead and Company – July 5th – Folsom Field

Estimated read time 5 min read

When Bob Weir and the crew rolled in Boulder on Thursday afternoon, it was a scorcher. Folks walking Shakedown were mopping sweat from their brows as they perused booth after booth of stickers, bootleg shirts, heady veggie burrittos, and my personal favorite Philafel with Hummus. While it wasn’t quite as extensive as the Shakedown at Phish Dick’s, it was quite a scene and warmed us all up nicely (pun intended) for the evening.

Bob Weir & Wolf Brothers – October 29th – Paramount Theatre

Estimated read time 2 min read

Bob Weir was here last Monday and we were there to catch him at the Paramount Theater with his new band Wolf Brothers. Not many people have had careers as prolific as Weir, and he shows no signs of stopping. This 3-piece iteration of Bob’s favorite cowboy songs was a slam dunk, both and depth of players and in quality of song choices. Bob is singing well and, despite the occasional missed lyric he is so well known for, his vocals were on point.

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead – August 31st – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

In stark contrast to the last time JRAD was supposed to play Red Rocks, the weather on Thursday as the show approached was a perfect late Summer Colorado day. The lots were hopping early, and the show was very obviously the go-to pre-party for the annual “Phish Dicks” Labor Day celebration across town at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. As Phishheads and Deadheads rubbed shoulders in the amphitheater, to say the energy and anticipation was high would be an understatement – the place was buzzing.

A packed house was ready to get their UMerica on and celebrate 4th of July weekend with jamband juggernauts Umphrey’s McGee and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead at America’s favorite outdoor concert venue. After a stellar Saturday night, expectations were high but there were nothing but smiles and good vibes on The Rocks and the sold-out crowd was treated to a dazzling display of masterful playing by both bands.

South Broadway was buzzing as Electron closed out their 4 night Colorado run with a sold-out show at The Gothic Theatre. The super group featuring Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner of The Disco Biscuits, Tom Hamilton, and Mike Greenfield brought the heat and delighted fans with a mix of Disco Biscuit songs as well as a few Pink Floyd and Grateful Dead covers thrown into the mix. With a packed house and anticipation levels high after rave reviews of the previous three nights, the crowd was hyped and the band did not disappoint.
