Lotus – October 4th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

Despite the frigid temperatures last Friday night, Lotus, BoomBox and Break Science were back in town. This time there was no turning back following the September 13th performance that was postponed due to flooding and road damage that made travel to the venue nearly impossible. Once Lotus took the stage for their third consecutive headlining performance at the storied venue and the first funky guitar notes of “Wax” rang out of Mike Rempel’s fingers everyone knew it was going to be a special show.

BoomBox – July 6th – State Bridge

Estimated read time 12 min read

There are two main subjects of this story. BoomBox the band and State Bridge Amphitheatre the venue. Although two completely separate entities, the two fused together for a night just a few days after the fourth of July. When the two members of BoomBox manned their stations on stage, it was as if a surge of electricity ran through the venue. Literally and figuratively. Yes, the crowd was excited but the beautiful intensity of the lights and sound system were catalysts as well.

YAMN – February 15th – The Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

YAMN is a rock band rooted in psychedelic jams, but the best way to convey what they do is to call them a “party band”…and they are probably one of Denver’s best. Their live show is far from predictable and their originals sound like they were created during vision quests in the desert. After a year long break from performing, the intensity of last Friday’s performance at The Bluebird proved that YAMN is back in a big way.

BoomBox – January 5th – The Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 3 min read

The basic boombox from the 70’s and 80’s consisted of an AM/FM receiver, a cassette player, and two speakers, all housed in a plastic or metal case with a handle that made it portable. While back then the boombox was an integral part of Hip-Hop by artists like Fab Five Freddy, Schooly D, and the Beastie Boys, today BoomBox is a Electro-Funk-Rock duo from Alabama and they tore up The Ogden for two nights last weekend!

When Zion Godchaux and Russ Randolph created BoomBox in 2004, they hit the ground running and built their fan base as a touring band. The hectic lifestyle did not allow for much balance and now, nearly a decade later, BoomBox has recently started spending some more time at home. Families have sprung, and so have home studios which allow the duo to spend time with loved ones as well as laying down new tracks. BoomBox is starting another chapter, and they told Listen Up Denver! a bit of the story.

Justice – August 7th – Red Rocks

Estimated read time 7 min read

Justice delivered a full-fledged, theatrical stage production at Red Rocks last week that involved much more than mundane knob-turning and laptop-meandering. There were glowing crosses, huge Marshall stacks, leather jackets, head splitting beats, and of course sets from two opening bands, Boombox and Rusko. It was a dance party for the ages and despite some minor technical difficulties during the headlining set, the crowd of 20-somethings and scantily clad ladies left thrilled by yet another great summer EDM show at Red Rocks.
