March Fourth Marching Band invaded the Gothic on Saturday just in time to get deep into the spirit of Halloween. There is no one else on the scene like this band right now and they deserve all the attention they’re getting. They put on a phenomenal show and left nothing to the imagination. Part Marching Band, part Big-Band Swing, part Funk, and part straight-up Vaudeville circus there was not one person in the crowd that seemed interested in leaving early for fear of missing another crazy act onstage.
Olivia Rudeen first picked up a guitar as a child and has never put it down. Not even old enough to drink, twenty year old Rudeen has already been playing in bars for a couple of years, and has an outlook well beyond her years. A student in UCD’s Music Business Program, Rudeen recently decided it was time to jump in to songwriting with both feet and took a plunge that immediately paid off.
Englewood’s Gothic Theatre started to fill up early for the inaugural “Nerd Prom” put on by Bop Skizzum last Friday night as the band had lined up some stellar support for the event in the form of opening acts Broken Tongues, Della, and Wheelchair Sports Camp. Bop Skizzum fully embraced the nerd theme and while they mostly performed fun originals like “Hit It On the One” and “I’m So Much Cooler,” they manged to throw in a funky Nirvana cover as well as some great Cartoon theme songs.
Colorado faves Bop Skizzum, Broken Tongues, Della, & Wheelchair Sports Camp will be rockin’ the stage & entertaining the squares at Bop Skizzum’s 1st Annual Nerd Prom. If you want to get your geeky groove on with four of Colorado’s best bands, The Gothic is where you want to be! The Aggie was not packed to the gills but there was a solid Sunday night crowd for Air Dubai’s show this past weekend. The Denver based hip-poppers were wrapping up a four-night Colorado tour with Chicago based funk-pop-rock outfit Kids These Days. While some of the crowd looked a little dazed from a long weekend of avoiding assignments, the majority was grooving hard and giving the bands a lot of energy to draw from for their performances.
FaceMan’s Waltz is a celebration of both the Denver music scene and the band’s second full-length album titled “FeedingTime.” Since the band’s beginning in 2008, FaceMan has developed a reputation of delivering entertaining live shows that combine original music and videos with an emotional performance. FaceMan is a band that seeks out every opportunity to collaborate with other musicians and, in the tradition of The Band’s Last Waltz, they have invited some of Denver’s finest to share the stage at the second annual Waltz.

Last Thursday, Cervantes’ Other Side played host to “A Very Special Evening with Fishbone.” The evening consisted of a screening of the documentary “Everyday Sunshine: The Story of Fishbone,” a short Q&A with the bands founders Angelo Moore and Norwood Fisher, and a series of live performances from Bop Skizzum, The Dendrites, and finally a much anticipated and high energy set from Fishbone themselves!
