  • From the opening notes of “Wordless Chorus” to the closing feedback of “One Big Holiday,” My Morning Jacket dug deep into their vault on Friday night, touching on all seven of their studio releases. As always, the band was dressed to the nines, and Jim James, The Jacket's charismatic front man, prowled the stage in a black and neon jacket, eyes concealed by oversized sunglasses. Gracefully tiptoeing the line between pure rock and roll and jamband, MMJ proved yet again why many call them the best live band in the business.

  • Telluride Bluegrass. Once you’ve been there, whether it’s for a day, a week, or forty consecutive years, it becomes part of you. It's the smiles on the faces of the performers as they look out from the stage over the most beautiful landscape their songs and melodies have ever echoed across. It is the meticulous, almost anal-retentive, organization of the event that somehow translates to a vibe conducive to dancing and singing and a passionately laid-back attitude from some of the most fervent music lovers anywhere.

  • On Saturday night the audience got more than their fair share of rain while waiting for Brandi Carlile’s return to Red Rocks. The previously forecasted “monsoon” rains put on quite a show that led to flash flooding, washed out roads and some serious lightening. During the set change, as if right on cue, the clouds faded to the east and the moon peeked over the back of the venue. Carlile, the brother’s Hanseroth and the rest of band took the stage to a roaring and energized crowd.

  • If you combine Grace Potter's decade of touring, the fact that she just happens to be blessed by the hand of god with a fine physical appearance, and her balance of raw and soulful vs.radio friendly songs, well, she can pull just about anybody out to a show and she proved that on Friday night at The Fillmore with the turnout and the diversity of the crowd. All ages and all walks of life came out for various reasons, but everyone wanted to get down...and we did just that. All damn night.

  • I think it's become a goal of the team up at Planet Bluegrass to out-do themselves from year to year with the line-up of the Folks Festival. While last year featured headliners Jackson Browne, The Weir Robinson Greene Trio, and Brandi Carlile, this year brought Iron & Wine, Amos Lee, and Lyle Lovett to the intimate stage by the river in Lyons and each one mesmerized and surprised as they entertained the sold-out crowd.
