Barrington Levy Talks Medical Marijuana and The End of Dancehall

Dancehall reggae began to take shape in the late seventies, and Barrington Levy has been in the scene since the beginning. When he was just 14 years old he began performing and recording this more stripped down version of reggae, and he literally grew up in the Dancehalls of Jamaica. Listen Up Denver! had the honor of speaking with Barrington Levy, and he gave us his thoughts on where dancehall has come from, and where it is headed.

De La Soul & Black Sheep – October 29th – Cervantes’ Ballroom

It was a hip-hop history lesson at Cervantes’ this weekend and we all got schooled. The place was packed, with bass thumping and bodies moving to the sounds of NY Hip-Hop from the early 90’s. Modern rap has gone a totally different direction than it was going back then this show made us all wish we were back in the day every Saturday! De La Soul has a uniquely positive and energetic sound while Black Sheep brought the classics and whipped the room into a frenzied explosion.
