Telluride Blues & Brews – September 12th, 13th, 14th – Telluride, CO

Estimated read time 15 min read

The Telluride Blues & Brews Festival is a one-of-a-kind music meets beer experience. Sure there are festivals all summer long in this idyllic little mountain town, but none of them blend two things so suited for each other: world class Blues music and world class beer. While it’s a must-see bucket-list trip for a lover of either of the festival’s main attractions, it’s also the kind of place that welcomes newbies with open arms, full glasses, and three solid days of music.

Shaky Knees Festival – May 9, 10, 11 – Atlanta, GA

Estimated read time 9 min read

True sounds of American Alternative Rock rang from Atlanta, GA on May 9-11, 2014 at the Shaky Knees Festival. With headlining acts like The Violent Femmes, The Replacements, Alabama Shakes, and The National, the event drew large crowds and made good on the ticket, but the venue had ample space, sparing attendees the typical troubles of summer festival overcrowding. The line-up even featured some of Denver’s own musical talent, including singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov and Folk/Baroque Pop band Paper Bird.

Rocky Mountain Folks Festival – August 17th & 18th – Lyons, CO

Estimated read time 8 min read

This year’s Rocky Mountain Folks Festival featured marquee names like John Butler Trio, Patty Griffin and John Prine but it was the lesser known acts like Seryn, Foy Vance, Nathaniel Rateliff and Charles Bradley that really wow’d the faithful crowd. Word on the street months before the festival was that the organizers and staff of Planet Bluegrass were more excited by the acts this year than they had been at any time in recent memory, and they just may have been right on!

Charles Bradley & The Menahan Street Band – September 13th – The Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

In 1962 James Brown played The Apollo in New York City and a young Charles Bradley was there taking it all in. That show must have made a huge impression on the young man, because what I witnessed on stage on September 13th had the same energy and showmanship that I personally had only seen from the Godfather of Soul himself. He’s not the second coming of James Brown, he may be better!
