Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio – September 25th – Cervantes’ Other Side

Estimated read time 3 min read

I’d been anticipating this Saturday night show at Cervantes’ for quite a while. The Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio has been making some noise for a while now, and I had to find out what all the fuss was about. Sure, I’ve listened to their albums and checked out some online videos, but seeing these guys live is where it’s at. Color me impressed.

The Congress – The Loft Tapes

Estimated read time 3 min read

Soul music has the wonderful property of evoking memories of musical marks made on the heart and that’s just one of the many reasons why the new EP from The Congress is quickly working its way into heavy rotation on our playlists. Recorded on a reel-to-reel tape machine in an old Masonic Temple in Berthoud, CO, “The Loft Tapes” pays tribute to the band’s influences with a collection of super chilled Soul classics that have a fittingly scratchy and vintage vibe.

PICK OF THE WEEK: Alabama Shakes & Michael Kiwanuka – The Ogden Theatre – March 9th

Estimated read time 2 min read

Alabama Shakes not-so-subtle blend of fiery Blues-Bock and hard-hitting Southern Soul has drawn comparisons to the Black Keys, the Drive-By Truckers, and even Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings. Michael Kiwanuka’s acoustic Blues-Folk sound and timeless soulful voice has been favorably compared with the likes of Curtis Mayfield and Van Morrison. This is a must see show!

moe.peners: Yamn & The Congress – 11/30 & 12/1 – The Ogden

Estimated read time 5 min read

The sidewalks leading to The Ogden Theatre were packed this past weekend, not only because moe. was in town for a two-night run, but because a pair of Colorado’s favorite bands were opening the shows. The lines to get in the door started early and, on both nights, the theater was packed from the pit to the balcony for the duration. It’s not easy task to win over a room full of inpatient jamband fans, but both these bands did it by playing their hearts out and we are proud they call Denver home!

My Morning Jacket delivered a mind-blowing three and a half hour performance on Saturday night at Red Rocks that is sure to go down in the record books as one of the best shows to ever take place at the hallowed venue. Monophonics – July 19th – The Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 5 min read

For a Thursday night, or any night really, The Bluebird was sadly pretty empty when San Francisco’s Monophonics rolled into town last week. What that left those of us lucky enough to have made the right decision and hit the show, was plenty of dancing room, and boy, did we need it. Our guess is next time these boys come to town, they will draw a much bigger crowd as it is only a matter of time before word gets around that Monophonics is the real deal on the Funk scene.
