Estimated read time 4 min read

Labor Day traditionally marks the official end of Summer and, as kids, many of us dreaded the three-day weekend as it meant it was time to pack up the bathing suits and towels and break-out the backpacks and books. These days though, it’s different. Labor Day weekend has become a hallowed and highly anticipated weekend for many as it means that Phish is going to set up shop for three days at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park here in Denver.

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead – August 31st – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

In stark contrast to the last time JRAD was supposed to play Red Rocks, the weather on Thursday as the show approached was a perfect late Summer Colorado day. The lots were hopping early, and the show was very obviously the go-to pre-party for the annual “Phish Dicks” Labor Day celebration across town at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. As Phishheads and Deadheads rubbed shoulders in the amphitheater, to say the energy and anticipation was high would be an understatement – the place was buzzing.

Phish – September 2nd – Dick’s Sporting Goods Park

While most concert scenes can be relatively predictable in terms of who is going to show up, if there is one scene that has become as predictable as June Cleaver it’s Phish at Dick’s. The energy in the air is palpable as the Vermont quartet has built up a long history of largely stellar performances at the soccer stadium and the Shakedown is a wild open air market offering up all kinds of lot goods from the most insane Mac & Cheese subs (yes, I said Mac & Cheese subs) courtesy of The Gouda Boys, to your standard lyric tees and heady glass.

For the third year in a row, Phish closed out their summer tour with a three night stand at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Expectation levels were high after the previous two runs churned out arguably six of the best shows by the band since their return in the spring of 2009. Anticipation was heightened on Friday after the “S” and “Fuck Your Face” shows to kick off the 2011 and 2012 Dick’s runs showcased the band’s affinity for novelty and their ability to deliver top-notch performances with tongues placed firmly in cheek. Phish did not disappoint.
