This summer, Kauffman, Aijala and Johnston have joined forces with nearly everyone, and this year’s Kinfolk Celebration only solidified this notion, bringing in the fall season with a BANG. Marking the 1-year anniversary of the devastating flooding that took place in the Front Range last September, this year’s Kinfolk brought us hours of original tunes, impressive renditions and one-of-a-kind collaborations, and proved that our local community is stronger than ever.

WinterWonderGrass – February 21st-23rd – Nottingham Park, Avon

Last year’s WinterWonderGrass was held at a small, but inviting brewery in Edwards, CO. The immensely positive rating from the attendees led the creator Scott Stoughton to move the festival to Snowball’s old stomping ground at Nottingham Park in Avon, CO. The new fairgrounds for the 2014 WinterWonderGrass gave enough space for the mountain dwellers to move and groove to the enchanting sound of the strings, while providing even larger beer tents—another draw of the festival.

YarmonyGrass – August 23rd & 24th – State Bridge

State Bridge concluded their summer season with the annual YarmonyGrass, a festival beloved by Colorado bluegrass lovers that proved it has a loyal local following whose dedication to the music remains unwavering. An annual weekend of camping, swimming, and dancing on the banks of the river – the festival is a Rocky Mountain tradition that will only get better with age. Thanks to Andrew McConathy and the rest of the performers, State Bridge, and the state of Colorado for a fantastic weekend of amazing music; it will not be forgotten.

Emmitt-Nershi Band – January 28th – The Bluebird Theatre

Saturday’s Emmitt-Nershi Band show at The Bluebird looks like it flew under many people’s radar as The Motet’s “Best Of Halloween” show over on the other side of town drew the biggest buzz of the night. Turns out the lack of buzz didn’t matter much as the Colorado Bluegrass faithful flocked to the Bluebird in droves and packed the place to hear the band blend String Cheese Incident and Leftover Salmon songs with a colorful variety of both originals and surprising covers. The boys amazed newcomers while satisfying their long time faithful.
