Rocky Mountain Folks Fest – August 17th, 18th, 19th – Planet Bluegrass

Estimated read time 8 min read

As families we all have our traditions and, whether it’s opening presents on Christmas Eve, driving to the cabin every summer, or making pancakes on Sunday morning, these traditions are what define our lives and give us those memories that last a lifetime. For our family, one of those traditions is our annual August pilgrimage to Lyons for the Rocky Mountain Folks Fest. Though it’s been twelve years some thing remain the same; the beer is cold, the music is amazing, and the river water cools the blood in minutes.

Mandolin Orange – August 24th – Mishawaka Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 5 min read

The Poudre Canyon has an energy about it. You can feel it when you drive through the winding roads. Curving around the river banks, the sun shines through your open windows and you hear the river rushing softly. There’s no connection to the outside world in the canyon. It pulls you in and wraps you up like a blanket. As you continue through these winding roads of solitude, life suddenly emerges. It’s here you encounter the renowned Mishawaka Amphitheatre, nestled in the remote majesty of the Poudre.

WinterWonderGrass – Steamboat Springs – February 23rd, 24th, 25th

Estimated read time 7 min read

First of all, before we get too far down the road, each and every person who was in Steamboat for WinterWonderGrass last weekend is to be commended. From employees and organizers to fans and musicians, this was a dedicated bunch. Temperatures plunged down into the single digits as they worked, danced, poured, and played, but those who played music up on the big stage have to be singled out as the most hardcore of them all. While many could bundle up and put on the heaviest of ski gloves to keep fingers from freezing solid, those musicians had to keep their fingers dancing on the strings, skins, and keys in a vain attempt to keep the blood flowing.

Rocky Mountain Folks Fest – August 18, 19, 20 – Planet Bluegrass, Lyons, CO

Estimated read time 8 min read

Sure this festival is about music, but more than that it’s about the community that surrounds the music as performers stand in line alongside fans for a bowl of Sister’s Dumplings, hard fought for tarp dash numbers are graciously given away to unsuspecting families, and strangers look out for each other on the slippery river rocks. For three days each August the real world melts away as we join the rest of the Folks on Planet Bluegrass.

On Thursday, June 15th, the main street of Colorado’s most captivating town, was abuzz with an energy and excitement as the crowds (some there for days) made their way to Town Park for the start of the 45th Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival. There is no better setting for a music festival; there is no better music for such a setting.

Elephant Revival – May 21st – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 6 min read

The cusp of summer in Colorado is a beautiful time of year, full of warm days, cool nights, and dreamy mountain adventures – perfect for an evening on The Rocks with Elephant Revival. They hail from that little town a 30-minute drive up the canyon from Boulder, the mysterious town of Nederland (referred to by locals as “Ned”). It doesn’t have much cell phone service, and isn’t a typical stop on a tourist’s map. Perhaps that’s why this town has shaped such unique artists as the ones who make up this wonderful band.
