Escort – December 3rd – Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox

Estimated read time 4 min read

Brooklyn’s Escort took the stage at Ophelia’s last Friday night and got the party started. Kicking things off with “A Bright New Life” from their 2012 eponymous album, it was immediately apparent that this band was dead set on igniting the dance-floor. As the slickly produced beats washed over the crowd, men and women alike responded to Adeline Michèle as she belted out the lyrics, layed down the bass line, and danced in Martini glass shades, a white lace outfit, and over-the-calf tube socks.

PICK OF THE WEEK: Escort (Live Band) – Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox – Friday, December 2nd

Estimated read time 2 min read

Escort stands out, in part, by creating dance music the old fashioned way: with impeccable production, musicianship, and songwriting. Their explosive live performances have cemented their reputation as one of the country’s premiere live acts. Despite being a self-proclaimed disco band Escort is “very careful to make music that doesn’t just sound and feel old, but is actually relevant for DJs and listeners today.”

The New Deal – February 28th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 6 min read

A near sold-out crowd braved the cold and packed The Ogden last Saturday for the return of Canada’s favorite power trio, The New Deal. The band set a very high bar with the driving rhythms and pulsing beats of house music combined with sleek and almost futuristic sounding melodies that are their calling card. Their largely improvised show proved they are poised for big things to come. Hopefully for fans this is true and none of them will have to say “Its been so long since I’ve seen The New Deal” ever again.

SnowBall Music Festival – April 4th – Sports Authority Field

Estimated read time 4 min read

SnowBall Music Festival opened Friday night at Sports Authority Field in a new home and with a fresh lineup that went well beyond another night at the club. While Dubstep was indeed the king of the evening, high-fashion Disco and dirty Shoegaze did not go unsung. The weather was a factor and a damp chill in the air made it feel more like winter in San Francisco than spring in Denver. Cool temperatures, however, did not dampen the spirits of the modestly sized crowd.
