This past Friday night brought Denver unusually warm weather and a variety of choices for the Denver live music faithful to get down. Down at Cervantes’, J2G Live was ready to deliver their third installment of the Dance Party Time Machine, a collaborative effort of Denver’s finest musicians who come together to throwdown a mixtape of hits from throughout the decades of dance music. After trips through the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and more, the time machine landed safely in 2015 to end the evening.

From the Delorean parked out front to Marc Brownstein performing the narration on “Thriller” as the show wound to a close, last Friday night’s long-anticipated Dance Party Time Machine was a major, bad-to-the-bone success. A vast majority of Denver’s local Jam, Rock, and Funk music scenes were represented, with musicians taking turns on-stage throughout the duration of the Dance Party’s 4-hour throw-down. Denverites should feel lucky to have such incredible performers, artists, and musicians living in our midst.

Despite some turbulence and turmoil in locking in a venue, the Philadelphia based quartet will once again play the Ogden. Rolling up to Cervantes’ on this Friday night felt good. It was one of those mild, late summer Colorado evenings that force you to love Denver. Not to mention, John Brown’s Body was in town, and for those who know JBB – it’s kind of a big deal. Apparently the word is getting out because the large Cervante’s ballroom was full. JBB is an elite Roots Reggae Dub act and the fans on hand were in the know as they are essentially the core of the Denver Reggae scene. It was a good crowd and there were good vibes all around.
