Father John Misty – April 9th – Ellie Caulkins Opera House

Estimated read time 5 min read

In the four years that have followed Father John Misty’s 2012 album, Fear Fun, his Denver shows have come a long way. Saturday marked the first of two sold out nights at one of Denver’s most lavish venues, the 2,225 seat Ellie Caulkins Opera House. It was surprisingly the perfect home to a night of cynical lyrics matched with the sass, feminine dance moves and energy that makes Father John Misty such an outstanding performer.

Father John Misty – April 9th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 5 min read

A sold out crowd packed the Ogden on Thursday night for indie music’s biggest smartass, Father John Misty. The unpredictable performer was more calm and less talkative than shows past, but he still delivered a fantastic show full of humorous lyrics and perfectly executed songs from both Fear Fun and his newer masterpiece, I Love You, Honeybear. Tillman paced the stage was the grace of a seasoned Vegas crooner and his flawless vocal sat atop the mix. After the show, he thrilled some hardcore fans by sticking around for fifteen minutes, shaking hands with fans across the barricade.

Father John Misty – June 18th – Gothic Theatre

Estimated read time 3 min read

“We couldn’t quite fill that place, so we had to bring in a bus full of convicts to fill this show” Josh Tillman scoffed about the last minute move of his show from the Ogden to the Gothic this past Tuesday. Though a smaller venue, the large, gaudy psychedelic stage set framed by two giant disco balls fit just fine and twenty-somethings filled the room all the way to the back. Father John Misty’s sarcastic swagger, smooth voice, and flamboyant moves more than made up for a venue change and harsh sound, resulting in a fun evening, as always.

The Walkmen & Father John Misty – January 21st – The Ogden

Estimated read time 4 min read

The Ogden Theatre slowly filled in last Monday night for a show a lot of people had been looking forward to for months – two of 2012’s best indie rock acts on one bill. As show time neared, a healthy, though not sold-out, crowd of twenty and thirty somethings milled around, drinks in hand ready for a fun close to MLK Day. While Walkmen failed to wow the crowd, Father John Misty put on a hell of a stage show throughout the set with his strong, smooth vocals and his ridiculous drunk-white-girl dance moves.
