Joe Pug – April 3rd – Bluebird Theater

A healthy crowd filled the Bluebird Theater on Friday for Austin singer-songwriter Joe Pug’s show at the venerated venue. Thirty-somethings clad in flannel were spirited but respectful during a set that ventured back and forth from intimate to full-pelt. Between laughs, Pug fit in plenty of his older favorites like “I Do My Father’s Drugs,” “Nation of Heat,” and “Hymn #35” as well as some new songs from last month’s ‘Windfall.’

Aimee Mann – October 9th – The Ogden Theatre

It might not be the 80s anymore…heck it isn’t even close to the 90s anymore…but the crowd of Aimee Mann’s devoted fans on Tuesday night at The Ogden Theatre seemed ready to transport themselves back into an era where singer-songwriters ruled the radio, and the feminist movement was taking center stage. It was a scene of quiet love and appreciation for someone this middle-aged crowd of men and women has been committed to for years.
