Father John Misty – November 2nd – The Bluebird Theatre

The sold-out Bluebird was crowded and in high spirits as twenty and thirty-somethings finished their cigarettes, grabbed drinks from the bar, and got ready for the songs of Father John Misty’s recent release, Fear Fun. Misty’s last appearance in Denver was a drunken acoustic opening set for Youth Lagoon on the same stage in front of a largely disinterested crowd and from the looks of things on Friday, most of the crowd had missed that or, like myself, knew better and came for a second shot.

Florence & The Machine – July 25th & 26th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre & Wells Fargo Theatre

Last week, Florence and the Machine made two stops here in Colorado and we were on hand for both of them. While on the first night, at the majestic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the atmosphere seemed perfect for the band’s massively powerful, haunting, and beautiful sound, at the second show the group had their work cut out for them to morph the sterile Wells Fargo Theatre into a magical dreamscape.

Young The Giant – February 18th – The Ogden Theatre

The Ogden Theatre looked more like the Cherry Creek Mall than a music venue on Saturday as hordes of dolled up twenty something ladies gathered for a big night out. Young the Giant has rapidly gained recognition since they signed to a record label, lost a member, and changed their name . . . and they delivered a show that showcased their infectious sound and the passionate stage presence of frontman Sameer Gadhia.

Fleet Foxes – July 21st – The Fillmore Auditorium

Despite the sound not being quite as good as it should have been, the Fleet Foxes mesmerized a near capacity crowd at The Fillmore on Thursday night. They were on the top of their game as they demonstrated playful and precise instrumental interplay and rich, cathedral worthy harmonies that washed over us like warm fog.
