Dweezil Zappa – August 8th – Arvada Center

Estimated read time 1 min read

Dweezil Zappa returned to the Front Range last week to pay tribute to his father’s monumental legacy. The crowd was fairly sparse, and with Dweezil performing Frank Zappa’s epic catalog the audience has certain expectations in the music, and meeting those requirements is paramount to delivering a satisfying show. While his artistic attempts to make these songs his own to some degree is commendable, some hardcore Frank fans were left with a bad taste in their mouths.

Zappa Plays Zappa – February 14th – Ogden Theatre

The crowd was fittingly bizarre at the Ogden Theatre last Friday as fans old and new made their way in the doors for Zappa Plays Zappa. The late musical genius Frank Zappa is remembered for his off-beat sound, insanely intricate songwriting and preposterously hilarious lyrics. On Friday Dweezil Zappa and his band covered his father’s ‘Roxy & Elsewhere’ album in its entirety. The performance included theatrical elements, an array of musical instruments and talent, and a whole lot of perplexing lyrics–it was a perfect homage to Frank Zappa.

Estimated read time 9 min read

Moments before jam super-group Dirty Dawgs took the stage on Friday night at the new Quixotes’, we found out from a friend that Ray White (of Frank Zappa fame) was in the house and would be sitting in throughout the night. Ray White sitting in with a super-group composed of Michael Kang, Steve Molitz, Eric Gould, and Brandon Draper in the main room, and The Grant Farm in the bar? It had all the hallmarks of a crazy night and lived up to the billing!

Little Feat’s Paul Barrere Talks Feat Past and Present

Estimated read time 11 min read

Little Feat is a band that has been in the trenches of Rock and Roll since the revolution began. Listen Up Denver! had the honor of catching up with Little Feat’s Paul Barrere while he was in a hotel in New York, and we talked Feat past and present.
