Victor Wooten, known for his solo recordings and tours, and as a member of the Grammy-winning super group, Béla Fleck & The Flecktones, has won most every major award given to a bass guitarist. The one summarizing thought about this year’s YarmonyGrass: not enough! Just two days of hardly strictly bluegrass on the Colorado River was not enough. The weekend boasted blue skies, warm temperatures and so many friendly faces gathered at Rancho Del Rio for the best of what Colorado has to offer of Bluegrass and string music. Mountain air, clear skies and incredible once in a lifetime collaborations made YarmonyGrass 2014 one of the most beautiful and unforgettable summer festivals to date.

Victor Wooten – February 9th – Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom

Estimated read time 3 min read

Victor Wooten’s show at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom was less about the five-time Grammy award-winning bassist, and more about his “new band, new sound, and new experience.” Wooten, as promised to his fans, wowed the audience with dazzling solos but he also allowed his band to steal a piece of the stage and showcase their skills as well. As the band blended Funk and Jazz it soon became clear why this kind of musical exploration took place beneath a giant Disco ball.

The Motet’s annual “musical costume” shows on Halloween have become something of an institution here on the Front Range with folks buying tickets early in the summer to make sure they don’t miss out on the madness. This year’s run kicked off on the 25th, stopped in Denver for two nights at The Ogden before heading up to Vail and finally wrapping up last night in Boulder. When all was said and done it was a fun and funky show and while it didn’t top “Funk Is Dead,” everyone in the room had smiles on their faces to the bitter end.
