Two nights, two sold-out midweek shows at The Ogden for Gary Clark Jr. and his band. Tickets were hard to come-by on the street and beer lines were long in the venue. Tedeschi Trucks Band – July 25th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 2 min read

Last Friday night Red Rocks was the nexus of the universe for Blues lovers. With both Gary Clark Jr. and the Tedeschi Trucks Band on the bill, the hallowed Morrison venue rang with slide and echoed with deep bluesy riffs late into the night. PICK OF THE WEEK: Gary Clark Jr. – Ogden – Friday, October 11th

Estimated read time 1 min read

The only thing growing faster than Gary Clark Jr.’s acclaim — among fans, critics and iconic musicians alike — is the scope of his talents and tastes. It all comes very naturally to the young musician; a triple threat guitar-slinger, emotive singer and involving songwriter. His one-to-watch appearance at the White House command performance for the Obamas alongside Mick Jagger, B.B. King, Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy — prompted the Music Fan-in-Chief to remark, “He’s the future.”

Estimated read time 7 min read

The 20th Annual Telluride Blues & Brews Festival was a wet one, but the heavy downpours followed by strong sunshine yielded some awe inspiring rainbows. It seemed like from Thursday till Monday, the skies were telling us they were in charge, but reminding us to smile about that fact. We were at the whim of the weather. We were not in control. Giving in to the music and the mud, we approached the weekend humbled by both and decided to rage along with the rain as hard as we could.

The Meter Men – May 10th – The Ogden

Estimated read time 4 min read

The Ogden Theatre was buzzing with excitement last Friday in honor of the legendary Meter Men (Leo Nocentelli on guitar, George Porter Jr. on bass, and Zigaboo Modeliste on drums plus Page McConnell from Phish sitting in for the legendary Art Neville on the Keys). An older crowd sporting plain tees and cargo shorts—nothing too fancy. Just those who showed up for the funk and stayed for…well, the funk.
