Rodina – May 10th – The Bluebird

All we can say is…we just wish more people were there to see it. In its current formation, Rodina is a new endeavor, and considering the name has virtually no recognition yet, a fair amount of people showed up to check out this who’s who of local and international talent. It was a Thursday night, and the Nuggets were playing a crucial playoff game against the Lakers, but the almost 200 people who ventured out and took a risk on something new, were the ones who saw a truly championship performance.

Rodina Teams Up With Colorado Musicians For A New Ep And Tour

In the U.K., funk music is an underground scene. Here in the Front Range, it’s a mainstay. The New Mastersounds are one of those mainstays here, despite being from Leeds, England. And now New Mastersounds keyboardist Joe Tatton is hammering his Hammond in a new Colorado-based side project — Rodina. Rodina is a who’s who of Denver talent featuring members of Kinetix, Fox Street All Stars, and Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, and the entire lineup is rooted in funk and reeks of Jazz Fest and Jam Cruise.

George Porter Jr. And The Runnin’ Pardners – January 21st – Cervantes’ Other Side

On Saturday night the brick walls of Cervantes’ Other Side fortified the funk and the legendary bass playing of George Porter Jr. acted as a cornerstone. The room packed with people of all ages as Porter and his Runnin’ Pardners rattled the mortar and shook the floors with the sound of true New Orleans funk, straight from the source. “It’s ALWAYS a good night when George is in town.” True dat!

The Green Talks Craft Beer And Ways & Means

A crowd of underage “X” on the hand kids and 20 something’s filled the Bluebird Theater to near capacity last Saturday. The young audience saw The Green take their music genre full circle. While the band never fully abandoned their Reggae roots, they broke the music back down to base elements during certain songs. They embraced the R&B that helped birth Reggae and added elements of Soul, Pop, and Rock.

Collegiate Peaks Music Festival, now in its 6th year, may just be the best little known music festival of 2011. This year a diverse line up of 14 bands took to the stage situated next to the Arkansas River and in the shadow of the Collegiate Peaks from July 28th – July 30th. Staying with tradition, CPMF remains a celebration of Colorado by featuring some of the best bands from around the state. Additionally, the festival recruits an eclectic selection of touring bands from all over the US.
