Strange Americans have created a smoldering sound that is a well thought out blend of Alt-Country, Indie Rock, and Americana, by cherry picking some of the best elements of acclaimed acts like Ryan Adams, My Morning Jacket, and The Band, to influence their songwriting. Earlier this week they were kind enough to take some time to answer our 20 Questions as they prepped for a big show on Friday night at The Hi-Dive with a couple of our other favorite local acts, Mosey West and Grub Street Writer.

A stacked bill of great local artists like this doesn’t come around too often. These three groups embody the spirit and the sound of great Americana bands, while injecting a little Rock ‘n Roll for good measure. With Andy Palmer’s Grub Street Writer coming up first, followed by up-and-comer Strange Americans, the room is gonna be rockin’ by the time Fort Collins’ Mosey West takes the stage.

“On the Road to Crazy,” the upcoming EP from Andy Palmer and Grub Street Writer is an eclectic representation of the group presented in less than twelve minutes. We hear a lot of music and love seeing something come at us out of nowhere. Right now that something is Andy Palmer and Grub Street Writer. Andy Palmer and his band Grub Street Writer threw a CD Release Party for Palmer’s new record “Sometime Around” at the Walnut Room. The band was tight and their music was presented in exquisite detail. It was great to see Palmer’s vision come together so smoothly as he combined the subtleties of guitarist Dan Kern’s Jam and Jazz influenced Les Paul licks, with his own raw acoustic style. Both Kern and Palmer were on fire, and crowd loved it!

Andy Palmer is a man of conviction, one who has spent his life searching for meaning…and it sounds like he has found it in his music. Palmer has just released his first album, “Sometime Around,” and will be throwing a release party at The Walnut Room this Friday. Even though he just released a new album under his name, the band Grub Street Writer is his main obsession.
