Guns N’ Roses – August 2nd – Sports Authority Field at Mile High

Estimated read time 5 min read

Wednesday night at Mile High there was an interesting mix of long term G N’ R fans, middle aged music fans and suburbanites dressed for a night on the town. Watching these guys, who once defined American 80’s rock and roll excess, it is hard to imagine they’re in their 50’s. While they may not still be writing anthems like Paradise City or Welcome To The Jungle, they sure can perform them and delight their fans with a true rock and roll show.

Zac Brown Band – July 29th – Coors Field

Estimated read time 5 min read

Saturday night, for only the second time in Coors Field’s history, a major concert rolled in, filling some forty thousand seats in the open air of downtown Denver. The massive stage sat in the center of the outfield, and fans blanketed the field, minus the precious infield. Even to a casual fan, the scale and setting alone was exciting. It had all the grandeur of a show at the Pepsi Center with the charm and comfort of a warm summer night in the open air. Zac Brown Band proceeded to rip through a long evening deep with covers and original hits.

Van Halen – July 20th – Red Rocks

Estimated read time 7 min read

Rock legends Van Halen gave nostalgia seeking fans a thrill with a nearly sold-out performance at Red Rocks that served as a fitting metaphor for the band’s career. “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times” said an overserved fan as we headed out of the venue and it couldn’t have been more true. Despite having to deal with a pretty heavy pre-show dose of rain and an insanely drunk crowd, the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famers delivered a hit filled, high energy show that left ears ringing for a few days after the fact.

In the shadow of Coors Field, and just down the street from the Denver Rescue Mission lies the Marquis Theater. Tonight’s bill of MF Ruckus and Metalachi would be no exception. Jesus or Satan, Heaven or Hell, the choice is yours in LoDo

Revenge Of The 90’s – March 30th – Stoney’s Bar & Grill

Estimated read time 10 min read

Ah, the 90’s. It was a wild time with 80’s Hair Bands getting devoured by the raging juggernaut out of Seattle that was grunge, and Hip-Hop enjoying it’s glory years. Nirvana fearlessly led the Grunge movement while Green Day showed us all how to blend Pop and Punk to create some ridiculously hooky songs. Speaking of hooky songs, Weezer, Sheryl Crow, and Ace of Base all cranked out a few of their own throughout a decade that was known for the rise of the internet, the dissolution of the Soviet Union, and the first Gulf War.

Emmitt-Nershi Band – January 28th – The Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

Saturday’s Emmitt-Nershi Band show at The Bluebird looks like it flew under many people’s radar as The Motet’s “Best Of Halloween” show over on the other side of town drew the biggest buzz of the night. Turns out the lack of buzz didn’t matter much as the Colorado Bluegrass faithful flocked to the Bluebird in droves and packed the place to hear the band blend String Cheese Incident and Leftover Salmon songs with a colorful variety of both originals and surprising covers. The boys amazed newcomers while satisfying their long time faithful.

Guns N’ Roses – December 11th – 1st Bank Center

Estimated read time 6 min read

Guns N’ Roses marathon show at the 1st Bank Center was nothing short of over-the-top . . . in every way. From the stage set-up, to the three guitar attack, to the three hour set time, to the 34 song setlist, Axl Rose did it his way. When all was said and done I would say that ended up enjoying about half the show and on the drive home I did my best to figure out how to get that other hour and half of my life back. I have one word for you Mr. Rose: “Edit.”
