Hank 3 – October 6th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

Monday night must have been a quiet one for most of Colfax. With the glow of the street’s steadfast and proven neon signs failing to deliver the usual patrons it must have felt eerily quiet. Normally coveted bar stools were sitting unused and the long lines at the liquor stores and dispensaries were a lot shorter. I know all this to be true because Hank 3 filled the Ogden Theatre with the types of people that frequent Colfax, a place that Playboy Magazine once called “the longest, wickedest street in America.”

Dave Rawlings Machine – June 19th – Boulder Theater

Estimated read time 4 min read

Boulder Theater was home to a bit of an Americana supergroup and for many in the crowd it was a a nervous joy to be that close to musicians as amazing as Gillian Welch, Dave Rawlings, and John Paul Jones. The group was dressed in their Nashville finest with cowboy boots, hats and enough denim to make old Levi Strauss blush. The evening of Bluegrass and Country inflected Folk covered songs from each artist as well as some notable covers.

True sounds of American Alternative Rock rang from Atlanta, GA on May 9-11, 2014 at the Shaky Knees Festival. With headlining acts like The Violent Femmes, The Replacements, Alabama Shakes, and The National, the event drew large crowds and made good on the ticket, but the venue had ample space, sparing attendees the typical troubles of summer festival overcrowding. Justin Townes Earle – June 16th – Mishawaka Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

The snowmelt-filled Poudre River roared down the canyon and behind the stage at the scenic Mishawaka Amphitheatre last Saturday night. The crowd of college kids, older cowboys and mountain men and their sundress clad girlfriends showed up early to enjoy beer and a nice summer evening. The rugged stage and buildings that surrounded it looked and smelled like the dinning hall at a summer camp with a little less bug spray and a lot more beer.

Tedeschi Trucks Band & Grace Potter and The Nocturnals – June 15th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

If there is any venue that can evoke awareness of a higher power, Red Rocks is the place. Weather swirling around the naturally spectacular venue caused a slight delay to the start of the evening last Saturday as thunder, rain and lightning threatened from the sky. People pulled out their rain gear, but seemed generally unaffected as they awaited the start of a fantastic triple threat of music from JJ Grey, Grace Potter and Tedeschi Trucks Band.

Hank III – October 6th – The Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

Ooooh boy! What a scene it was Thursday night at The Ogden. There were Ten Gallon Hats and Tattoos, Hillbillies and cute little Rockabilly girls, big burly beards and Mohawks. A little bit of just about every look you can imagine was packed into The Ogden for Hank III’s Attention Deficit Domination show. This wasn’t a mainstream country show by any means, but rather the kind of country show that fuels bar fights and raging hangovers in out-of-the-way roadhouses in places like the Deep South and West Texas.

Steve Earle played a intimate 45 minute set at Twist & Shout Records yesterday evening.
