Ryan Adams – June 4th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre
A light rain broke and gray skies hung over Red Rocks ahead of Thursday night’s show with multi-genre rocker, Ryan Adams. Backed by a killer new band, he ripped through a setlist that played like a greatest hits album and spanned his discography. The threat of lightning shutting down the show was constant, but Adams was able to fit in two hours of music and one hell of a show before it eventually did.
Houndmouth – February 28th – Bluebird Theater
It’s easy to lump Houndmouth in with the folk-pop revival fueled by footstompers like Mumford and Sons and The Lumineers, but when it comes down to their live performances, incredible four-part harmonies and soaring bluesy guitar solos can silence any disdain you may have for romanticized roadways and cliched old west Americana imagery. Saturday was no exception for the sold-out crowd at the Bluebird Theater, who enjoyed an outstand set from the Indiana band.
PICK OF THE WEEK: Houndmouth – Fox Theatre & Bluebird Theater – Thursday, February 26th & Saturday, February 28th
Houndmouth’s songs emerge with a loose-limbed swing, anchored by a sturdy rhythm and a cagey melodic sensibility. This band is making some huge waves from landing a record deal at SXSW four months after forming to opening up for the likes of Drive By Truckers and The Alabama Shakes and now headlining their own tour. You don’t want to miss this show!
The Head And The Heart – August 14th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre
An extremely long line of fans trailed down the road behind the scenic Red Rocks Amphitheatre last Thursday night for a first-rate show that nearly didn’t come to fruition after a severed power line cut power to the historic venue. Though the show was pushed back an hour, fans were in high spirits and the show that followed was more than worth the wait.
Snowmass Mammoth Festival – June 14th & 15th – Snowmass
Combining great music, craft beer and food, this year’s Snowmass Mammoth Fest featured the likes of Xavier Rudd, Leftover Salmon, Les Claypool’s Duo de Twang, Chris Robinson Brotherhood (just to name a few), a tasting from over 25 breweries and a chili cook-off. One of the best things about Mammoth Fest was that there was never a tight crowd. There were rolling hills around us and a herd of horses in the pasture beside. There was a little bit of something for everyone.
