PICK OF THE WEEK: In The Whale – Larimer Lounge – Friday, Oct 28th

Estimated read time 1 min read

In The Whale has returned with “American Eyes,” the lead off single from their upcoming five-song EP titled Quicksand. “American Eyes” is a driving rock anthem about experiencing the vast and changing landscape of America, and its people, one stop at a time. Produced by Bill Stevenson (of The Descendents) and recorded at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Quicksand is a collection of raw, high energy tracks influenced by the band’s last twelve months of touring North America. Don’t miss the return of this powerful, juggernaut of a rock duo!

The crowd had lived through the days of flannel and Nirvana and were ready for a flashback.

Estimated read time 8 min read

The lineup for the Reverend Horton Heat show at the Gothic on the last Monday was eclectic: a local Rock band (In the Whale) kicked it off, followed the Bluegrass Punk band from L.A. Old Man Markley. Of course, the main course was left to “the Godfather of Psychobilly” himself, Reverend Horton Heat. The variation of music was perfect, (Old Man Markley stole the show), and longtime fans enjoyed several songs from Heat’s upcoming album “Rev.”

Electric Six – February 19th – The Larimer Lounge

Estimated read time 3 min read

Chock-full and literally stuck to the goo lined floors, a flannel and leather wearing group of fans with trucker hats and lots and lots of Pabst Blue Ribbon cans filled the Larimer Lounge last Tuesday as Electric Six took to the stage like Rock and Roll veterans. Front man, Dick Valentine delivered a tongue in cheek, saucy performance to the cult-like following as his band cranked out dialed in guitar riffs, thundering drums and Electronic fills that gave the band’s New Wave, Hard Rock sound a little contemporary pop.

20 Questions With Strange Americans

Estimated read time 7 min read

Strange Americans have created a smoldering sound that is a well thought out blend of Alt-Country, Indie Rock, and Americana, by cherry picking some of the best elements of acclaimed acts like Ryan Adams, My Morning Jacket, and The Band, to influence their songwriting. Earlier this week they were kind enough to take some time to answer our 20 Questions as they prepped for a big show on Friday night at The Hi-Dive with a couple of our other favorite local acts, Mosey West and Grub Street Writer.
