String Cheese Incident – July 15th & 16th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 6 min read

Good vibes dominated the scene when String Cheese Incident returned to their home court at Red Rocks last weekend for a three night stand. Kind souls with smiling faces abounded, some were decked out in their best Steam Punk attire, others in fairy wings, and still others in sequined capes. It’s was a carnival for the senses and while the music from the headliners was a little uneven, openers Kamasi Washington and Tauk were incredible.

Jack Johnson – August 18th – Red Rocks

Estimated read time 1 min read

Jack Johnson’s tour in support of his #1 album, “From Here To Now To You,” would not be complete without a stop at America’s greatest venue, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, so the singer dutifully played for a sold-out audience last Monday. With his longtime friends in ALO playing the role of opener after stepping in for an ailing Michael Kiwanuka, the curly-haired surfer played a high tide of fan favorite hits, some clever covers, and plenty of the new record, too.

John Fullbright & Bahamas – July 18th – eTown Hall

Estimated read time 3 min read

The basement of a sold-out eTown Hall was packed with small groups of music fans chatting, drinking beer and eating snacks prior to last week’s taping of the eTown radio show that featured John Fullbright and Bahamas. Both artists offered great performances and we’ll be seeing a lot more from them in months and years to come. Be sure to check out the recording of the show when it airs nationwide in a few months.

Chipotle’s Cultivate Festival – October 6th – City Park

Estimated read time 7 min read

Last weekend Chipotle’s first annual Cultivate Festival rolled into Denver and was met with frigid temps (for this time of year anyway), grey skies, and even some sustained snow showers. While this unseasonable weather probably kept a few thousand people away from the festival, it didn’t dampen the spirits of those who made it out to City Park bundled up against the arctic blast to enjoy a day of food, drinks, and of course, music. In the end, despite the cold, it was a smashing success in my mind and will be a great addition to the fall out here.

Donavon Frankenreiter – March 21st – The Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 3 min read

The Bluebird Theater was peppered with a variety of happy, familiar faces for an evening with two singer-songwriters a few weeks back. Even though this was a Wednesday night show, the theatre felt surprisingly empty. This was after all, Jack Johnson’s good friend and protégé in town to deliver optimistic tunes with danceable melodies all the way from Kauai, Hawaii. In full island flavor, Donavon taught us how to “Move by Yourself” and we all enjoyed the hell out of the evening!

PICK OF THE WEEK: ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra) – August 27th – The Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 2 min read

ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra) is more than just a band and more than just a group of great friends making music together. ALO is a lifestyle. Born from a friendship nurtured during their days at the University of California Santa Barbara, the four-piece collective are part musical explorers, part pop songsmiths, and all-around dynamic performers.
