Jake Bugg – April 4th – The Bluebird Theater

Humbly deflecting unasked-for requests for songs, English songwriter Jake Bugg guided a packed house through a memorable acoustic set last Tuesday night at the Bluebird. Bugg’s set, though acoustic and played primarily under a single spotlight, was by no means dull. The twenty-four-year-old was preceded by another young UK musician, Scotland’s Nina Nesbitt.

Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats – August 21st – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

A cloud covered sky kept the temperature modest for a late August evening as a blend of Denver’s hip converged on Morrison’s marvel…Red Rocks. The demographic ranged from hipster to soccer mom, hippie to yuppie. Very diverse within the upper middle class, Caucasian world. We had a mild urge to go Hunter S. Thompson on it, take an assortment of substances and try to mingle, but it was a Sunday.

The Black Keys – November 13th – Pepsi Center

The Black Keys are currently on the Turn Blue tour in support of their most recent album of the same name and last night Denver gave them some frigid temperatures to contend with. After a set of Dylan inspired Pop-Folk from rising star Jake Bugg, The Black Keys raucous Blues warmed the expansive confines of a Pepsi Center full of hipsters and rockers alike, all who saw a stellar spectacle of light and licks. The band busted out old favorites, a few choice covers and, of course, a few Turn Blue gems.
